Welcome to Ms. Yates' English Class!

Get ready to learn!

I look forward to a fun and exciting year. In order to make our year successful, your cooperation will be required. I am available during 7th period for parent conferences by phone or email. This is the preferable way of reaching me. Parents may also leave a message at the front office and I will return calls after school hours. Important information, such as the school calendar, special events, etc., can be found at the school website.

Instruction will begin promptly every day with a journal writing activity posted on the board & online. You will need a composition book (any color) to be left in the classroom for this activity. Please be sure that you bring a pencil or pen (blue or black ink only), a binder and notebook paper to class every day. Occasionally, you will need a highlighter. In addition, a pencil pouch will help keep your supplies organized.

Each Friday, I post your current grade on JCampus. My expectation is that you and your parents review grades weekly. You may complete missing work with an excused absence. You will have homework approximately 3 days a week. These will be short practice assignments that should take 10 - 20 minutes to complete. Remember to put your first and last name on all your work so that you may receive credit for completing your assignments.

You were given a copy of my class expectations, consequences and rewards the first week of school. Inappropriate behavior or language towards the teacher or another student will not be tolerated at any time in the classroom. Our classroom is a place of learning.

Remember: Take responsibility; Respect everyone; Obey safe practice; and Yearn for excellence! Follow these simple guidelines from Trojan TROY and have a fantastic school year!
